THANK YOU FOR PURCHASING OUR MINI 3 SERIES VEHICLE REVERSING AID. OUR SYSTEM WILL TELL YOU EXACTLY HOW CLOSE ANY OBSTACLES ARE WHILE YOU ARE BACKING UP.

IMPORTANT NOTE

The mini 3 series Reversing Aid is strictly a driver assistance device. It should not be considered as a safety device for any other purposes. No warranty as to operational efficiency is granted. It is not a substitute for driver responsibility when operating a vehicle.

MINI 3 SERIES REVERSING AID IS RECOMMENDED FOR USE ON PASSENGER CARS, LIGHT VANS, MINI BUSES, SPECIAL UTILITY VEHICLES AND LIGHT TRUCKS WITH A CLOSED BED. THIS SYSTEM IS NOT SUITABLE FOR HEAVY TRUCKS, ANY OTHER VEHICLE WHERE SENSORS MAY BE OBSTRUCTED OR DAMAGED BY DEBRIS FROM THE VEHICLE.

PRECAUTIONS [FIG 1]

*DO NOT APPLY MORE THEN 12 VOLTS TO THE SYSTEM.

*DO NOT APPLY EXCESSIVE FORCE TO THE POWER UNIT OR THE LED UNIT.

*DO NOT MOUNT THE POWER UNIT OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. IT SHOULD BE MOUNTED IN A CLEAN AND DRY PLACE, AWAY FROM DIRT, WATER OR MOISTURE.

*DO NOT MOUNTED DETECTOR ON THE FRONT OF THE BUMPER.

*DO NOT BEND OR APPLY STRONG PRESSURE TO THE DETECTORS.

*DO NOT INSTALL THE DETECTOR TOO CLOSE TO THE EXHAUST PIPE.

*KEEP THE DETECTORS CLEAN BY WASHING IT PERIODICALLY.

GUIDELINE FOR EFFECTIVE DETECTION DISTANCE

CONCRETE WALL 1 M2 IN AREA OR ABOUT 2.5 METERS (8 FEET)

TRUCK OR BUSES 2.5- 2.0 METERS (6-8 FEET)

VAN OR MINI BUS 2.0-1.5 METERS (5 - 7 FEET)

PASSENGER CAR OR SEDAN 2.0-1.5 METERS (5 - 7 FEET)

ADULT 1.0 - 0.6 METER (1.5 – 3 FEET)

70 mm X 1M POST 1.5 -1.0 METERS (3 – 5 FEET)

NOTE

1. THE ACCURACY OF THE SYSTEM AND THE EFFECTIVE WORKING DISTANCE OF THE SYSTEM ARE DIRECTLY INFLUENCED BY BOTH THE SURFACE OF THE TARGET AND THE REFLECTIVE CHARACTERISTIC OF THE TARGET.

2. IF THE TARGET "OBSTACLE" IS A FLAT SURFACE THAT INCLINES AT AN ANGLE TO THE SENSOR, OR A TRIANGULAR OBSTACLE WHERE THE DETECTOR IS POINTING TOWARD ONE CORNER OF THIS TRIANGLE, THE RESULTING READING FROM THE DETECTOR MAY BE INACCURATE DUE TO THIS ANGULAR POSITIONING. THIS MAY RESULT IN A NON DETECTION SIGNAL. DRIVERS IN THESE SITUATIONS SHOULD PAY MORE ATTENTION WHILE MOVING THEIR VEHICLES.


INSTALLATION AND WIRING

A] INSTALLING THE DETECTORS.

NOTICE. THE MOUNTING POSITION OF THE DETECTORS IS VERY CRITICAL. IMPROPER INSTALLATION DIRECTLY EFFECTS THE PERFORMANCE OF THE SYSTEM. PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW THE INSTALLATION PROCEDURES CAREFULLY.

FOR BEST DETECTOR POSITION PLEASE REFER TO [FIG 3] FOR 2 DETECTOR SYSTEM AND [FIG 4] FOR 3 DETECTOR SYSTEM. EACH DETECTOR MUST BE MOUNTED AIMING STRAIGHT OUT FROM THE VEHICLE. DETECTORS MUST NOT AIM DOWN TOWARD THE ROAD SURFACE. ALL DETECTORS SHOULD BE MOUNTED WITH EVEN SPACE BETWEEN THEM. IF TWO DETECTORS ARE USED, MOUNT THEM NEAR, BUT NOT DIRECTLY AT THE CORNERS OF THE VEHICLE. IF THREE DETECTORS ARE USED, MOUNT ONE IN THE CENTER OF THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND MOUNT THE OTHER TWO AS STATED ABOVE, WITH THE OPTION OF MOUNTING THEM A LITTLE CLOSER TO THE CORNERS OF THE VEHICLE THAN YOU WOULD IF YOU WERE ONLY INSTALLING TWO. AGAIN, BE CERTAIN DETECTORS ARE NOT AIM DOWN TOWARD THE ROAD SURFACE. YOU DO NOT WANT TO DETECT THE ROAD.

TIPS FOR SELECTING BEST POSITION

SELECT THE BEST POSITION IN THE BACK OF YOUR VEHICLE FOR THE DETECTORS AND TEMPORARY MOUNT THE DETECTORS WITH MASKING TAPE OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF ADHESIVE THAT CAN BE EASILY REMOVED LATER. TEMPORARILY CONNECT THE SYSTEM TO A 12-VOLT SOURCE. BACK YOUR VEHICLE UP TO A FLAT SURFACE LIKE A WALL AND CHECK THE SYSTEM PERFORMANCE. ADJUST THE POSITION OF THE DETECTORS AS NECESSARY IF THE RESULT IS NOT PER REQUIREMENTS.

MOUNTING METHOD

ONCE THE MOUNTING POSITION IS DETERMINED, MOUNT THE DETECTORS WITH THE DOUBLE SIDED ADHESIVE TAPE PROVIDED. THE BEST-RECOMMENDED POSITION IS ON THE BOTTOM EDGE OF THE BOOT/TRUNK COVER OR UNDER OR BESIDE THE TAILLIGHTS. [FIG 6 AND 7] THE LEAD FLAT CABLE CAN EASILY BEND THROUGH THE GAPS OF THE TRUNK LID INTO THE BOOT/TRUNK. IF THE DETECTORS ARE MOUNTED ON OR BESIDE THE TAILLIGHTS, THE FLAT CABLE MAY BE ROUTED BETWEEN THE CAR BODY AND LIGHT HOUSING INTO THE BOOT/TRUNK. THE FLAT CABLE CAN BE FOLDED TO GO UP, DOWN, LEFT OR RIGHT. [FIG 8] DOUBLE SIDE ADHESIVE TAPE IS PROVIDED TO SECURE THE FLAT CABLE TO THE VEHICLE BODY.

 

[B] INSTALLING OF DISPLAY UNIT

THE DISPLAY UNIT CAN BE MOUNTED AS SHOWN ON [FIG 9, 10 OR 11]

SAFETY WHEN THE DISPLAY UNIT IS INSTALLED UNDER THE MIRROR OR ON THE WINDSHIELD, MAKE SURE THE UNIT DOES NOT BLOCK THE SIGHT OF THE DRIVER.

[C] INSTALLING OF THE POWER UNIT

THE MAIN UNIT CAN BE MOUNTED ANYWHERE INSIDE THE BOOT/TRUNK USING THE ADHESIVE PADS OR WIRE TIES. FOR DETECTORS MOUNTED ON THE BOOT/TRUNK COVER, IT IS RECOMMENDED TO MOUNT THE MAIN UNIT UNDERNEATH THE BOOT/TRUNK COVER. [FIG 12]

IMPORTANT MAKE SURE THE UNIT IS INSTALLED IN A CLEAN AND DRY PLACE, AWAY FROM WATER AND MOISTURE.

[D] WIRING

THE WIRING SYSTEM IS SIMPLE AND EASY. JUST FOLLOW THE WIRING DIAGRAM SHOWN IN [FIG 13].

POWER UNIT: CONNECT THE RED WIRE TO THE REVERSE LAMP WIRE BY USING THE CRIMPING CONNECTOR. CONNECT THE BLACK WIRE TO ANY GROUND SOURCE. WITH THIS WIRING PROCEDURE, THE SYSTEM WILL AUTOMATICALLY ACTIVATE WHENEVER THE CAR IS DRIVEN IN REVERSE. AN LED ON THE MAIN UNIT INDICATES POWER TO THE SYSTEM.

LED UNIT: RUN THE LED UNIT WIRE INTO THE TRUNK. PLACE THE MODULAR PLUG INTO THE LONG END OF THE POWER UNIT.

DETECTORS:  FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS ABOVE, YOU SHOULD HAVE MOUNTED THE DETECTORS ON THE OUTSIDE OF YOUR VEHICLE. CONNECT THE DETECTOR WIRE TO THE POWER UNIT MAKING SURE YOU HEAR THE "CLICK" SOUND TO ENSURE PROPER CONNECTION.

USE OF THE DETECTOR LENS

TO IMPROVE DETECTOR APPEARANCE, WE HAVE INCLUDED TRANSPARENT LENSES WITH THE SYSTEM WHICH ENABLE YOU TO MATCH THE COLOR OF THE DETECTOR TO YOUR VEHICLE COLOR. THE LENS CAN BE SECURED TO EACH DETECTOR BY USING ADHESIVE TAPE. PAINT THE LENSES TO MATCH THE COLOR OF THE VEHICLE BEFORE SECURING THEM TO THE DETECTORS. [FIG15]

IF DETECTORS HAVE BEEN MOUNTED ON THE TAILLIGHT ASSEMBLY, LENSES ARE AVAILABLE IN TRANSPARENCY RED TO MATCH TAILLIGHT HOUSINGS. YOU CAN ALSO CHOOSE OPTIONAL DECORATIVE SENSOR COVERS IN MATT SILVER OR MATT GOLD FINISH. Please contact your local distributor for the optional lenses.

USER SETTING

FOR DISTANCE DISPLAY, A SLIDE SWITCH ON THE RIGHT LOWER CORNER OF THE DISPLAY UNIT ALLOWS YOU TO READ THE DISTANCE IN FEET OR METER. [FIG 17]

YOU MAY ADJUST THE ALARM SOUND LEVEL THROUGH THE OPENING ON THE BACK OF THE LED UNIT. [FIG 16]

OPERATION AND TESTING

ALARM SYSTEM AND SPECIAL WARNING SYMBOLS.

THE MINI 3 SERIES HAS A THREE STEP WARNING SOUND THAT CHANGES ACCORDING TO THE DISTANCE THE OBSTACLES ARE FROM THE DETECTOR. [FIG19]

STEP 1 – 2.5 M (8 FEET) TO 1.0 M (3.3 FEET)

STEP 2 – 1.0 M (3.3 FEET) TO 0.5 M (1.6 FEET)

STEP 3 – UNDER 0.5 M (UNDER 1.6 FEET)

IN SOME CIRCUMSTANCE, THE LED DISPLAY SHOWS DIFFERENT WARNING SYMBOLS TO ALERT THE DRIVER.

Hit THIS INDICATES THAT YOUR VEHICLE IS LESS THEN 25 CM (10 INCHES) FROM AN OBSTACLE. EXTREME CAUTION IS ADVISED.

StP THIS INDICATES THAT AN OBSTACLE THAT WAS DETECTED BY THE SYSTEM MAY HAVE FALLEN INTO THE BLIND AREA IN THE BACK OF YOUR VEHICLE AND IS NO LONGER DETECTED BY THE SYSTEM. AS A PRECAUTION THE SYSTEM WILL FLASH THE LAST DETECTED DISTANCE AND THE SYMBOL "StP" REPEATEDLY. WE RECOMMEND YOU TO STOP YOUR VEHICLE AND VISUALLY INSPECT FOR ANY OBSTACLES BEHIND YOUR VEHICLE.

InF THIS INDICATES THAT THE SYSTEM IS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY DUE TO AN EXTERNAL INTERFERENCE. ONCE THE SIGNAL IS GONE, THE DEVICE SHOULD FUNCTION NORMALLY AGAIN.


TESTING YOUR SYSTEM  [FIG 20]

  1. SELECT A LOCATION WHERE YOU CAN BACK YOUR VEHICLE INTO A FLAT SURFACE LIKE A WALL.
  2. SHIFT ON THE REVERSING GEAR, THE DEVICE WILL FUNCTION AUTOMATICALLY [FOR MINI3F THE DEVICE WILL SWITCHES TO REVERSING MODE].
  3. DRIVE BACK VERY SLOWLY.
  4. WHEN YOUR CAR REACHES THE EFFECTIVE DISTANCE, THE ALARM SOUNDS "BEEP" [ABOUT 2 CYCLES PER SECOND], ALSO THE DIGITAL DISPLAY SHOWS NUMERICAL MEASUREMENT OF DISTANCE FROM THE WALL.
  5. WHEN THE DISTANCE COMES TO 1.0 M (3,3 FEET) OR LESS, A 2ND STAGE ALARM SOUNDS, "BEEP BEEP" [ABOUT 7 CYCLES PER SECOND].
  6. CONTINUE BACKING YOUR VEHICLE YOU HEAR A CONTINUOUS "BEEP----------". STOP YOUR VEHICLE. THE DISPLAY SHOULD SHOW THE DISTANCE OF 50 CM (1.6 FEET) OR LESS.
  7. BACK YOUR VEHICLE VERY SLOWLY UNTIL THE DISPLAY UNIT SHOWS "Hit". STOP IMMEDIATELY OTHERWISE YOU MAY HIT THE WALL. THIS INDICATES A DISTANCE OF 20 TO 25 CM (10 INCHES). NOTE. THE ACTUAL DISTANCE WILL NOT BE SHOWN ON THE LED DISPLAY. AT A DISTANCE OF LESS THEN 25 CM (10 INCHES) THE SYSTEM ONLY SHOWS THE SYMBOL "Hit".
  8. AFTER PASSING ABOVE PROCESSES, YOUR INSTALLATION IS COMPLETED, THE DEVICE IS READY FOR USE.

TROUBLE SHOOTING AND MAINTENANCE

DETECTOR(S) NOT RESPONDING OR SENSITIVITY LOW CHECK CONNECTION BETWEEN DETECTOR AND POWER UNIT UNPLUG ALL DETECTORS AND REPLACE ONE AT TIME TO DETERMINE DEFECTIVE DETECTOR.  REPLACE DEFECTIVE DETECTOR(S).
DISPLAY LOCKED IN "HiT" OR ALWAYS  DISPLAYING THE SAME READING CHECK THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE DETECTORS AND POWER UNIT

CHECK CONDITION OF DETECTORS

CHECK FOR OBSTRUCTIONS IN FRONT OF DETECTORS

UNPLUG ALL DETECTORS AND REPLACE ONE AT TIME TO DETERMINE DEFECTIVE DETECTOR.  REPLACE DEFECTIVE DETECTOR(S).
DISPLAY UNSTABLE OR DISPLAY A READING WHEN THERE IS NO OBSTACLES BEHIND THE VEHICLE CHECK MOUNTING HEIGHT AND ANGLE OF THE DETECTORS RE-ADJUST THE MOUNTING HEIGHT POSITION AND MOUNTING ANGLE.
